The Iranian student Kianoosh Sanjari was set free from prison at the end of December, just two weeks after 'Students 4 Amnesty Tilburg' collected signatures at Tilburg University to send to the Iranian government.
The same day the government received the signatures, Sanjari was released on parole, after 70 days of imprisonment. To ensure that he would not flee, friends and family had to sign a waiver for a €100,000 deposit. A trial will follow soon, but Sanjari does not know yet what the charges against him are.
"I had contact with him, and he's doing very well. He is busy writing a piece about his time in prison, to put on his webblog. The only thing he wanted to say about his time in prison is that they treated him badly and that they threatened to execute him", says Farinaz Aryanfar from 'Students 4 Amnesty Tilburg'.
